The Great Eastern Linear Park #3
The Great Eastern Linear Park follows the old Lowestoft to Great Yarmouth railway track for just over one mile from along Barnards Way to Yarmouth Road just before what was Lowestoft North Station in the other side of the road. The Norfolk and Suffolk Joint line was owned by Great Eastern Railway. It ran from Lowestoft to Great Yarmouth Beach Station, passing through Corton, Hopton and Gorleston. The line opened in the early 1900s and closed in May of 1970. https://communityrail.org.uk/memories-sought-of-much-missed-norfolk-rail-link/#:~:text=Built%20in%201903%2C%20the%20Lowestoft,Lowestoft%20North%20and%20Lowestoft%20Central. It is in a cutting for most of its length and there are few locations for activities. The park is generally used as a transit route than a place to spend time and enjoy. It does however provide a key wildlife corridor through the town, including a pair of foxes. There is a fly tipping risk, although most of the rubbish I saw was the type dropped by users which had gathered under the bridges. The council does have elaborate plans for the future but it is the opinion of the writer that all they need to do is erect a rubbish bin every 200 yards and empty them regularly.

Skamacre Crescent street sign, Lowestoft
Skamacre Heath was a large area of ancient heathland approximately where this road is today. Skamacre is a word I can find used nowhere else in the English language.

Old N&SJ
The Norfolk and Suffolk Joint line was a company owned by the M&GN and the GER (Midland and Great Northern and the Great Eastern Railway). It ran from Lowestoft to Great Yarmouth running through Corton, Hopton and Gorleston. Opening in 1903 (I think) and closed in May 1970. The section from just north of Coke Ovens junction to just south of Lowestoft North station is now a footpath with several nice bridges. A signal box from Laundry lane has been preserved at Dereham Image

Grave of four German aircrew in Lowestoft cemetery
The Junkers Ju88A-14 was part of an attack on Great Yarmouth on 19th October 1942 at 08.45 in the morning. The aircraft, one of 35 aircraft, crashed after being harried by a mosquito from 157 Sqdn, and being fired upon by AA fire from shore and ships in Lowestoft harbour eventually hitting HT electricity cables and crashing into the concrete blocks of the stop-line, very close to the Anti-Aircraft emplacement on College Farm. The pilot was Leutnant Dr Wilhelm Blackert, the observer Unteroffizier. Meinhard Smit, the radio operator, Unteroffizier. Alfred Boehnemann and gunner Unteroffizier Helmut Mollenhauer were all killed instantly.

WW2 Commonwealth War Graves in Lowestoft Cemetery
This particular burial plot contains 56 headstones. There are almost certainly other unmarked burials due to the irregular spacing. The cemetery contains over 200 war graves the majority of which are either Royal Naval Patrol Service which included all the fishing boats, Royal Navy or Mercantile Marine.
