The birth place of Arthur Harry Blissett (1878-1955) a former Royal Marine and a fellow explorer on the 1901-1904 "Discovery" expedition to the Antarctic with Capt. Robert Falcon Scott. This is the A607 (Belton-Grantham) road with the town centre lying less than a quarter of a mile behind the photographer.

A view along a short section of the A607 - the Belton-Grantham road - as it approaches the town centre. A wall plaque on the terraced house on the left (No. 30) marks the humble birthplace of Arthur Harry Blissett (1875-1955) . He was a former Royal Marine and fellow Antarctic explorer with Capt Robert Falcon Scott, the famous polar explorer. Ahead, the biscuit-coloured building occupying the corner site is part of locally well-known "The King's School".

A rare view of the old burial ground behind houses on Manthorpe Road. When St.Wulfrum's churchyard was full in 1812, burials took place here until the new municipal cemetery opened in 1857, long-closed, it is open for 2½ hours a year.

Azubah Croft
Headstone for Azubah Croft in the old burial ground behind houses on Manthorpe Road. When St.Wulfrum's churchyard was full in 1812, burials took place here until the new municipal cemetery opened in 1857, long-closed, it is open for 2½ hours a year. As her headstone says, she died May 15th 1817 aged 29 years She was baptised 30th January 1788 at St.Martins in Lincoln, daughter of Joseph and Mary Croft. She died unmarried and was buried here on 19th May 1817.
