By H. Alderman Dickman, 1927-28. Pevsner describes it as 'Spanish-style'. Under the eaves is a Vitruvian scroll band.
The shops included Blue Arrow (recruitment agency) and Chocolate Utopia (guess).

The rain in Friar Lane goes mainly down the drain
Looking towards the Old Market Square with Christmas decorations in place, and a special pre-Christmas fun-ride. After a long spell of dry weather, a typical cold, damk, December day.

Friar Lane, Nottingham (Domesday 1986 comparison)
Picture taken specifically for comparison with Domesday Reloaded http://www.bbc.co.uk/history/domesday/dblock/GB-456000-339000/picture/1 .
Not quite replicated for day of week, time of day or time of year (note the Christmas decorations). The most noticeable changes are the restructuring of the roadway (now one-way and reduced in width, with trees planted in the pavement area) and the refurbished office block on the left. The windows have been replaced and an additional storey added.

20-24 Friar Lane, Nottingham
By W.B. Starr & Hall, 1928-29, for the Nottingham Permanent Building Society. The initials and date are inscribed in the cartouche at the top.
Seemingly empty at the time, being advertised as a retail or restaurant opportunity.
The flags were probably in aid of the Olympics.

The Royal Children Nottingham
One of the oldest licences in Nottingham the name is thought to originate from the time (1688) when King James II children were in residence in the castle. The pub was rebuilt in 1933-34.
