Highbury Place, London N5
This is the northerly portion of the long terrace which flanks the east side of Highbury Fields. The photo was taken about half-way along - behind the camera the terrace continues down the slope, almost to Highbury Corner. While the overall impression is one of uniformity, individual properties are by no means identical: Image In these Georgian developments - terraces and squares - adjacent plots were often built on by different contractors.

Unlike the great majority of houses in this terrace, the one on the left has windows with 'Gothick' tracery. They look out across Highbury Fields.

Highbury Place runs along the eastern side of Highbury Fields. Tina's Ices - evidently on her regular pitch - offers some relief from the sweltering heat.

Highbury Fields
The trees are mostly stripped bare now in this late November view, although there are plenty of dead leaves still on the ground. Highbury Fields was purchased as a result of an 1885 Act of Parliament for 'perpetual use by the public for exercise and recreation'. This is Queen's Walk which crosses the southern half of the park and is one of the avenues that break up the area into separate 'fields'.
