Morning on The Walks
Bright summer sunshine creates strong shadows across the path where it passes the children's playground between Market Place and Oakridge Drive. The hurrying feet of a commuter walking towards East Finchley station provide an element of movement to the photo - The Walks are a popular commuter route for those living in Long Lane and its surrounding streets.

Children's Posters
Posters designed by the pupils of Holy Trinity School adorn the screen of the Apollo Construction compound on Eagans Close. In a collaboration with the school, the site manager and site safety officer attended the school to talk with the children about the dangers of building sites. A competition to design warning posters was given as homework with the site workers choosing a winner from each year. All the posters submitted were then put on display.

Back From Swimming
Southgate & Finchley Coaches, W645FUM, drops off a swimming party from Holy Trinity School at the corner of Eagans Close. Normally the coach parks where the roadworks are, but as there is insufficient space it has blocked the close temporarily to allow the children safe exit onto the pavement. The tower blocks behind are on Prospect Ring. W645FUM is a Volvo B10M with Plaxton bodywork and was originally delivered to the Wallace Arnold group in 2000.

Parcel Force Delivery
Overnight snow and no gritting on minor roads in the London Borough of Barnet result in Eagans Close being closed to road traffic as protection for the primary school children arriving at school. This morning the delivery man is going to have to walk a bit further as a result! The barriers were provided and manned by Apollo, who have a small depot located next to the school - demonstrating their 'Responsible Contractor' credentials. Holy Trinity was the only school in the area open today and the noticeboard advises parents to check their mobile phones for text messages regarding the closing time of the school.

Policing the School Run
A member of East Finchley's Safer Neighbourhood Team poses with his bicycle outside Holy Trinity School. The team, which consists of three Police Officers and five Police Community Support Officers can be seen outside local schools most mornings ensuring the safe arrival of pupils. This photograph was taken for the local volunteer run newspaper, The Archer, to illustrate the new bicycles that the team had received over the summer holidays in 2010. The article that ran with the photo in the November edition included the following quotes from the team sergeant: - "The bicycles increase our visibility and our responsiveness, we can get to where we need to be more quickly." "We've made a number of arrests where we effectively 'surprised' offenders, who were used to us patrolling on foot." The Archer website is at http://www.the-archer.co.uk/index.php and the East Finchley Safer Neighbourhood Team information is at http://www.met.police.uk/teams/barnet/eastfinchley/

New block of flats on Park Road - built on the site of a pub which I believe was the Duke of Cumberland, recalling the mustering of his army here in 1745 to fight Bonny Prince Charlie's invasion of England. On the left is the RSPCA surgery.
