Metropolitan Line train approaching Kings Cross, from St Chad's Place bridge
The train is passing through the site of the original Kings Cross station, which was originally covered by an arched train-shed: a platform can be seen to the left of the train. The station was moved westwards, down the tunnel, following wartime bomb damage. To the right, behind the wall, is the former Kings Cross Thameslink station, now also replaced by a new station further west. Scala, King's Cross
Construction started in 1913 but due to WW1 it did not open as a cinema until 1920. After a chequered career, not always as a cinema, it was forced to close in 1993 following an illegal screening of A Clockwork Orange which resulted in heavy legal costs. The exterior was refurbished around 2018. It is now a nightclub with four levels and two dancefloors.
