Looking along the line of the old Palace Gates to Seven Sisters railway line
The railway line between Seven Sisters and Palace Gates was opened by the Great Eastern Railway on 1st January 1878 and closed by British Railways to passengers on 7th January 1963 and completely on 5th October 1964. Apart from its route and some of the bridges, very little evidence that it ever existed remains.
This is the view from the bridge carrying Westbury Avenue over the line and looks in the direction of West Green station. The back of the houses in Mannock Road are to the left and those of Graham Road to the right.

View Down Ivatt Way N17
The housing in the centre of the photo sits on the old railway alignment and there is now a footpath between Langham Road and Downhills Park Road where once a footbridge crossed the line. The two sets of rails embedded in the pathway are fakes: they are far too wide for the UK standard gauge tracks that once sat there. The artwork on the wall of the electricity substation gives a nod to a bygone age but strikes me at kitsch.

Mannock Road Allotments Fortified Gate
The Haringey Council signs are almost unreadable now but the 'danger' sign tells us rather starkly that the allotments are a 'hazardous area' and that the allotment management and tenants will not be liable for death or injury on the premises. I wonder if the new anti-climb razor devices on top of the gates might be the likely cause of death or are necessary to keep folk out of a deeply hazardous allotment. What has happened to our vegetable patches?

Palace Gates Station mural
The mural is a reminder of the Palace Gates Branch Line which ran from Seven Sisters to Palace Gates (Wood Green) from 1878 to 1964.

Wall Advertising Space Repurposed Near Turnpike Lane
The mural on the old advertising space looks a little tatty and the subject matter reminds me of 1970's sloganeering. The face within the star within the eyeball asking us to envision peace I imagine goes completely unnoticed. The graffiti art on the wall below has a date, 31.7.2022, but the 'Turnpike Art Group' board seems long abandoned.
