Javelin approaching Strood station
The Javelin service of six-car domestic high-speed trains from Kent towns to London St Pancras over the High Speed 1 line was introduced in 2009. Here, unit 395026 rounds the curve off Rochester Bridge at the decidedly low speed of 20mph. Calling points beyond Strood would be Gravesend, Ebbsfleet, Stratford and St Pancras. The tracks running straight ahead go to Maidstone and Tonbridge, and pass under the bridge carrying tracks from London to Rochester via Bromley.

Strood junction
At the southern end of Strood station, the line heads straight along what is nowadays a rural branch line to Maidstone and Paddock Wood. The curve carries trains onto the Kent Coast main line.

Strood Station, Kent.
Looking off the south west end of platform 2 at Strood station. The back end of the train on the left hand side of the photo has just departed the station from St Pancras bound for Faversham. The train is about to cross the river Medway bound for its next stop Rochester. The train is one of the newish high speed services run by South Eastern trains. The line running straight ahead follows the edge of the Medway on the northern side.
