At first I thought the dates on the gate were 1914 to 1919 (first world war), but no, it is 1419 to 1919 - the quincentenary of the earliest church on the site. The present church is 19th century Image

St Makarios church and hall, Farnley
Originally, this church building was an Anglican one called St Michael and All Angels Image, built in 1885 to replace an earlier one of 1761 although the earliest known church on the site (St Helen's chapel) was in 1419. It is listed grade 2 (list entry number 1375073). The church was formally closed for Anglican worship in 2011 and along with its adjacent hall is presently used by the Romanian Orthodox Church.

East side of church on Chapel Lane, Farnley
There has been a church on this site for over 500 years. There is a plaque commemorating this on the gatepost. See Image and Image The original church of St Michael and All Angels was designed by John Carr in 1761. It was rebuilt in 1885, and the cupola from the original church relocated to the side of the churchyard. See Image The church now serves the Romanian Orthodox community, and is known as the Church of Saint Makarios the Great.
