Queen Street, Horncastle
So good they named it twice. No.2 Queen Street is the former Cross Keys, Batemans public house. No.2a is Cross Keys flat. I don't think either are occupied, at this time - 18th July 2009. The road to the right is the A158 Lincoln to Skegness.

The junction with Queen Street - In view we see a public house and church, with just a glimpse of a Sunday school. To the right is the former Cross Keys, Batemans public house. Across the road is the former Independent Chapel and Independent Sunday School. The public house lasted longest in spite of there being at least another ten in town. Spirits being preferable to Spiritual guidance. Queen Street is 'Access Only'.

Queen Street, Horncastle
The former Independent Chapel and Sunday School. Built 1825 and rebuilt 1874. There seem to be a short span of time between building and rebuilding, which could suggest that not enough was done to make it structurally sound, or that it soon became unfit for purpose - a large increase in population and worshippers. The plot on this side of the building is a burial ground.

The main building in the centre is No.28. The small building tacked onto the side is No.30. The section which runs towards the road is No.32. They are all painted in the same style, which could mean they are all under the same ownership. A sign says, Georgian House. The building to the right is No.26

There are four separate buildings here, at least in listed number. The large Georgian house to the right is No.28. The building tacked onto the side is No.30. Half the building that extends to the main road is No.32. The other half is the former Cross Keys, Batemans pub, at No.2 Queen Street.

Modern street furniture - Not always sympathetic to older properties. Where ever you stand to admire this link with the past, the pole intrudes. Necessary it may be, but sometimes the old-fashioned wooden poles http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1679875 are better, even if it means a replacement every few years - placed upright of course.
