Swannington landmark house before conversion into three properties
Corner of Spring Lane & Main Street Swannington. Original house built in late 1800's or early 1900. Built level with what was a dirt road but with the advent of motor vehicles and tarmac is now 18" or more lower than pavement. Part used as a butchers shop initially but had a varied history.

Potato Lane bridge, Swannington
This footbridge carries an ancient green road over the Swannington Incline. The original structure was damaged by mine subsidence, partially demolished when the line closed, then buried under mine shale. The abutments were stabilised and the current bridge built in 1993. This view down the incline shows Church Lane bridge in the background.

Swannington village sign
The Swannington village sign was designed by Isabel Lyman and erected in 1997. The weather vane shows a locomotive pulling two coal wagons. The carved hardwood panels outside depict village scenes, with coal mining on the panel facing the photographer. Inside is a map of the village with brief explanations of places of interest.

This old pump is opposite the old Wesleyan chapel in the main street of Swannington. Mains water did not come to this village until 1938.

View up Swannington Incline
The view up the former Swannington incline, with Church Lane bridge in the foreground. The single track cable operated incline rose at a gradient of 1 in 17, and closed in 1947.
