Stephenson Shaft and Coalville Crossing Signal Box, Snibston Discovery Park
Snibston Colliery forms the basis of the Snibston Discovery Park with many of the buildings having scheduled monument status. The signal box has been rebuilt as part of the railway on site, but the winding gear and engine house are original, dating from 1914 with later improvements.

Snibston Colliery
Just after it had become the Discovery Centre. I'm not sure the public access goes this far anymore.

Snibston Colliery
This was when it had only just been converted to the Snibston Discovery Centre and the landscape is so typically colliery that's what I'm going to call the category. The modern museum is in the modern building on the left that resembles a furniture warehouse. The day was vile and it shows. I've boosted contrast because it really was flat.

The tandem headgear is surrounded by scaffolding for extensive maintenance.
I remember inspecting this from a large hydraulic platform in the late 1980s. The structure was severely corroded as little maintenance had been carried out since closure.

Former bus garage, Ashby Road, Coalville
Opened by the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Ltd ("Midland Red") in 1925 and closed by Arriva Midlands in 2011, the garage appears to have had its windows replaced and its shutters repainted since 2014 - see
Image - and therefore appears to be under new (if anonymous) ownership.

Opened by the Birmingham and Midland Motor Omnibus Company Ltd ("Midland Red") in 1925 and closed by Arriva Midlands in 2011, this sign almost shows the name of its original owner.

Coalville Crossing Signal Box and tandem headgear. , Snibston Discovery Park
The tandem headgear was developed by George Stephenson - of railway fame - to improve safety and productivity; the pit would no longer be dependent on a single shaft for lifting coal or in an emergency. This is one of only two still believed to exist in the UK, and is a scheduled monument. The actual structure is relatively modern, dating from 1942.
