The former Black Boy public house
This now closed public house is on the corner of Albion Street and Chatham Street, it closed in 2012. It is planned to be converted into student accommodation. The name referred to the young Charles II who, because of his swarthy complexion, was known as 'the black boy'.

45 Chatham Street, Leicester
This has the essentially functional appearance of a warehouse or factory, perhaps mid-C19th. It is, however, quite well proportioned and has some architectural treatment of the windows and a heavy bracketed eaves. At the time it was known as Pittaway House, offering both "superior student accommodation" and "luxury loft-style apartments", an odd combination. Still, it makes a change from all those places marketing inferior accommodation.

Chaos and Creation On York Street
This inner city street is an example of Leicester's constantly changing urban landscape. Once lined with factories, you can see in the right foreground where one of the factories has been demolished and at time of writing, is yet to be redeveloped! Incidentally, the brick structure with fences resting against it is a corridor that is still standing. As far as I know it serves precious little purpose.

Leicester, The Lanes Quarter
The main entrance of the former "Black Boy" pub on Albion Street. Chatham Street can also be seen running along the side of the pub towards Wellington Street. Built in art-deco style in 1923 it and had functioned continuously as a public house until going out of business due to a fall-off in trade. Planning permission has been given for its conversion into a mixture of one, two, three and four-bedroomed flats for students on the condition that the pub's cylindrical corner sign will be preserved.

Leicester, The Lanes Quarter
The main entrance of the former "Black Boy" pub is seen here on Albion Street, looking towards Belvoir Street. Built in art-deco style in 1923 the pub had functioned continuously until going out of business due to a fall-off in trade. It is set to be given a new lease of life shortly when it is converted into student accommodation. Planning permission has been given for its adaptation into a mixture of one, two, three and four-bedroomed flats on condition that the pub's cylindrical sign on the corner of the building is preserved.
