Alexandra House, Rutland Street, Leicester
A former bootlace warehouse by Edward Burgess, 1895-98, which Pevsner describes as the "finest warehouse in Leicester". It is clad in terracotta above a dark marble plinth. Handsome splayed corner flanked by broad piers and crowned by octagonal spired turrets and dome. The dome may be a later replica as the listing refers to the "drum of what was once a dome". Grade II listed.
It has been converted to flats. I wonder how many bootlaces it used to be able to accommodate.

78-80 Rutland Street, Leicester
Former leather warehouse of 1922-23 by Fosbrooke & Bedingfield for Pfister & Vogel "and reputed to be a replica of the firm's headquarters in Philadephia". The details are, I think, an idiosyncratic mixture of Gothic, Art Deco and Art Nouveau (Image]). It has a concrete frame. Grade II listed.
