Fawley station
We met the owner of this former station on this visit and he couldn't have been friendlier, showing us around his garden and regaling us with tales of how he remembered waiting at the station when he was small and how the trains shook the ground as they passed. He generously allowed me to walk up the old line to Fawley Tunnel, but sadly it was a bit too dark for photography in the overgrown cutting.

Fawley station, site/remains 1994
View southward, towards Ross-on-Wye, Grange Court and Gloucester: ex-GWR (Gloucester) - Grange Court - Ross-on-Wye - Hereford line. The station and route were closed 2/11/64, although Grange Court - Ross-on-Wye remained open for goods until 3/11/65. It looks as if part of the station has become a small dwelling.

Course of old railway at Fawley station
The former trackbed is now used as a home for ducks and chickens. The station building remains in good condition and has been tastefully extended. Even the down platform and shelter still exist. Taken looking towards Ross on Wye.

After the open parkland of Fawley Court, the cattle grid is on the edge of the village. Beyond is the parapet of a bridge over the former railway line. Fawley station was on the left of the bridge
