Shielded Grave
This unusual grave caught my eye in the churchyard of Image The head and foot are both marked by cast iron shields, and between them is a curved, coffin-shaped stone slab. The larger of the shields, at the head, bears a very worn inscription which will be completely indecipherable in a few years I would think, sic transit gloria mundi. Reading it as best as I can, I make it out to say: In Memory of William Ward who departed this life November ?? 1812 Aged 75 Years

St. Leonards, Grendon Underwood
The church of St. Leonard in Grendon Underwood is situated at the very northwestern end of the village opposite a T-junction. This church has stood here for about 800 years though it has undergone considerable modifications over the centuries. For more information see http://www.british-history.ac.uk/report.aspx?compid=62531&strquery=Grendon%20Underwood#s3 See also Image] for a 'panorama' view

St. Leonards from the churchyard
This is a stitched panorama shot of St. Leonards which can be detected by the slight bowing effect on the building. An unmanipulated view of the church can be seen in Image], but I've included this photo as it shows the entire length of the church without any obstructions.

Door, St. Leonards, Grendon Underwood
This door in the south wall of the nave of St. Leonards, Grendon Underwood has a rather unusual lantern and bracket above it. The lantern itself is nothing out of the ordinary, but the bracket looks as though it could hold something of much more dramatic proportions - I wonder if it originally did, though anything much deeper would have dangled at an alarmingly head-banging height !

Grendon Underwood
Looking down onto Main Street from the church tower. The village's main claim to fame is Shakespeare House, reputedly stayed in by the bard himself when it was an inn - its roof can be seen in the middle distance behind the modern houses.
