Hemel Hempstead New Town
Looking west to part of Hemel Hempstead New Town from the multistorey car park in Wolsey Road. In the foreground is the main shopping street, Marlowes, and the tower of Hemel Hempstead School (1931) can be seen as a white speck on the horizon. Hemel Hempstead existed as a settlement in the 8th century, but saw rapid expansion of housing and commerce after it was designated a New Town in 1947 to take overspill from London.

Hemel Hempstead: Travelodge hotel
Hemel's Travelodge is in Wolsey Road. At the time of writing this the website http://www.travelodge.co.uk/search_and_book/hotel_overview.php?hotel_id=33 totally overenthusiastically stated that Hemel Hempstead railway station was 0.5 mile away. By my reckoning it is 1.0 mile away as the crow flies, more if not a crow...

Residents Rainbow Sculpture
The artist for this Ceramic mosaic on a solid core was Californian Colin Lambert. It was erected in 1993 to symbolise the optimism and aspirations of the first people to settle in the New Town after the Second World War. During the 2000's it was adopted as the unofficial war memorial for the town and the poppy , crosses and plaque are later additions.

Residents' Rainbow, Marlowes
Originally sculpted and installed in 1993 and designed by Colin Lambert, it's mosaic pattern was added by Gary Drostle in 2010, and it now represents a war memorial. It has become something of a symbol of Hemel Hempstead.
