High Mill, Shaw Mills
Redundant mill building, once busy as a flax mill and fed by a mill race from Thornton Beck. A row of workers cottages stand in front of the mill building.

From the same point as Image], looking to the left to the Thornton Beck valley. The mill was in use for spinning silk until soon after the First World War http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaw_Mills . Some cottages accompany it.

Cut Throat Lane
Leads from the Bishop Thornton/Shaw Mills Road towards the west. Looking at your 1940 map, it now appears that some of this green lane has now been lost and incorporated into fields. What a wonderful name though!

Farm on Cut Throat Lane
This establishment looks abandoned, except smoke was issuing from the chimney stack. It maybe called Bog House, but I am not sure about that. It is situated roughly half a mile north of Shaw Mills in Nidderdale

Towards the Thornton Beck valley
Taken from just the other side of the gateway shown in Image], looking to the left, so the hedge on the left is the other side of the hedge shown in Image Up the hill on the left is High Mill Farm; the houses in the centre, only really visible at larger sizes, are at High Mill itself. Behind the end of the line of oaks on the right is a disused quarry.
