Railway Arches
The Railway Viaduct ran from Huddersfield to Heaton Lodge and contained 45 arches.

Viaduct Street, Huddersfield
The reason for the street name is obvious. The viaduct opened in 1847 and originally carried five tracks of the London and North Western Railway. Nowadays it has four tracks at this end nearer the station, reducing to two part way along. Listed grade II (list entry 1223531).

East of Huddersfield station
On a grey autumn day diesel unit 144004 approaches Huddersfield station as the terminus of a local service from Leeds. Note the two colour signals in the foreground, and beyond that the tops of bridge girders between the tracks mark the location of Fitzwilliam Street below. The waste incinerator Image fades into the misty background.

Huddersfield railway viaduct
Three arches of this viaduct were used to accommodate the inner ring road. It was built in 1845-47 but still carries the main Leeds to Manchester line, and is now grade II listed (list entry 1223531).

Fitzwilliam Street.
Named after 2nd Earl Fitzwilliam, Lord Lieutenant of the West Riding 1798,the building on the left was originally Bairstow's Wool Warehouse,with the railway viaduct at the bottom and the Football Stadium in the background.
