Huddersfield Narrow Canal at Chapel Hill bridge
The canal appears briefly here before continuing in a short tunnel under the college access road to reach the tail of lock 3E. You can see from the stone work that there was once a lock here but it was removed to keep the canal low enough to tunnel under the now demolished Sellers engineering works. Re-instating this canal was an amazing feat of engineering as the route had been built over at two separate points within the space of about 300 yards.

Huddersfield Narrow Canal
The canal is behind the fence and is entering a tunnel under Sellers Engineers. Sellers is a firm of specialist textile engineers and was founded in 1912. In spring 2011 it was due to move to new premises and the site was to be part of a £150 million waterfront redevelopment. The white tower is a water tower associated with water company offices and a nuclear bunker (so I've been told).

Huddersfield Narrow Canal - tunnel by Kirklees College
This shows the entrance to the tunnel leading to the tail of lock 3E that can be seen in the background. This tunnel was originally under Sellers engineering works that had been built over the original line of the canal. The works has now gone but this part of the tunnel carries an access road to the college. The buildings are Kirklees College.
