Fibreglass lion
This is on Lion Arcade of 1853 and opposite Huddersfield Station. The original lion was of Coade stone but was replaced with this version some years ago. It is claimed that when the station clock strikes 13 it goes for a wander around St George's Square.

The George Hotel, Huddersfield
This traditional station hotel was designed by William Wallen and Charles Child rather like an Italian “Palazzo”. It is the birth place of Rugby League which was founded in 1895.

Britannia Buildings, St George's Square
The Britannia Buildings in St George's Square face the George Hotel with the railway station to the left, and were designed by Sir William Tite and built by George Crosland as warehouses and offices. Until recently there were parking spaces in front but they have been removed in favour of a bus stop.

George Square, Huddersfield
George Square is the open space outside Huddersfield station, and has been largely pedestrianised in recent years. Many of the buildings around it are grade 1 or 2* listed, including the Lion Building seen here, listed grade 2* (list entry 1134167) built 1853 by J P Pritchett who also designed the station.
