Rushout Avenue, Kenton
Named after the Rushout family of Northwick Park in Gloucestershire who were the original owners of the land here, Rushout Avenue has a fine collection of 'metro-land' style semi-detached houses. They were built in the years after 1923 when the Metropolitan Line station opened. Note that although they are of similar architectural design, no two pairs of houses are identical - this 'individuality' was no doubt seen as a selling point by the developer.

Northwick Avenue, Kenton
Classic Metro-land suburbia: these houses are close to the entrance to the Metropolitan Line's Northwick Park station. Each of the semi-detached pairs differ in detail, and some have been extended and altered over time, but the overall architectural style is firmly from the inter-war years of the 20th century. All the houses in this view have paved over front gardens and it is now quite rare to find this type of house in the London suburbs with an actual garden at the front. This has consequences for drainage but otherwise the streets would be hopelessly clogged with parked vehicles. The Northwick name comes from Northwick Park in Gloucestershire, the seat of the original landowners here, the Churchill-Rushout family.
