Rear of Stevenson Avenue
These houses have a grand view of the main Edinburgh to Glasgow railway line running along their garden fences. That song 'Little Boxes' was singing itself in my head as I passed along and took these images. (It's there again now, and I wish it would go away!)

Polmont Junction
The line at the bottom of the picture and curving away left in the background is the main Edinburgh and Glasgow line via Falkirk High. The Class 170 diesel unit is crossing over to take the line to the right, which leads to Stirling and Dunblane via Falkirk Grahamston. Polmont, conveniently placed between two of Scotland's major cities with good rail and motorway links to both, has in the past few years seen something of a housing boom and the empty area to the left of the train, once occupied by an engine shed and sidings, was earmarked early in 2008 for further housing development.

Polmont Locomotive Depot
View northward, with the ex-North British Edinburgh - Glasgow main line beside the Shed; J88 0-6-0T No. 68354 and J36 0-6-0 No. 65275 are prominent. The Depot provided motive power for many of the local lines and yards in the area. Three years before in 1954, the Depot (coded by BR 64E in the St Margaret's District) had an allocation of 42, comprising:- 2 2-6-0s (LMS Ivatt type), 24 0-6-0s, 5 4-4-2Ts, 3 0-6-2Ts, 6 0-6-0Ts and 2 0-4-0Ts. It was closed in 5/64.

London bound train, Polmont
East of Polmont Junction where Edinburgh to Glasgow and Edinburgh to Dunblane (my old commute) lines diverge. I think this is the train from Inverness to Kings Cross.

Canal and Towpath
I think this was probably the busiest stretch of towpath I've been on so far - it certainly seemed to be very popular with folk of all ages.
