Hadley Wood North tunnels
The newer bore of the 1950s is on the left. It is used for both down tracks, the older bore for up tracks. The fast lines are in the middle. A stopping down train on the left is being overtaken by a non-stop train.

Hadley Wood North Tunnels
The Great Northern Railway opened its line between Maiden Lane and Peterborough through what is now Hadley Wood in 1850. The station was opened on 1st May 1885 by the Great Northern Railway. There are tunnels in both directions, close to the station. Hadley Wood North Tunnels seen here are just over 200 yards long, whereas Hadley Wood South Tunnels are nearer 400 yards. The original tunnel from 1850 is on the right and the newer one from the early 1890s on the left. The station has four platforms, but only the outer platforms are in everyday use by stopping trains, with high speed services using the central tracks. The inner platforms have recently been re-surfaced however, and can be used during emergencies. This view is from the down slow platform.
