New footbridge over River Lee Navigation
This has replaced the bridge seen in Geograph Image and appears to be only for the use of those going to and from Gainsborough Primary School seen opposite.

Lee Navigation: old concrete footbridge
I do not know what the original purpose of this unattractive structure was: it is totally enclosed and is now out of use, presumably awaiting demolition. I can only surmise that it may have been used by pupils at the school (left) to access sports fields on the eastern side of the cut. The school itself is a large and attractive building, but surrounding buildings prevent an effective photograph of it.

Lee Navigation: Alongside the Olympics site
The blue boards which were originally fixed alongside the towpath here have been replaced with some attractive glass posters showing children's work inspired by the Olympics. To their credit, the local youth have not defaced any of this with graffiti. This stretch of the Lee Navigation is sometimes referred to as the 'Hackney Cut'.

Hackney Cut. looking south
On the left is the dreaded 'Blue Fence', keeping intruders out of the Olympics site. On the right, pleasnt modern housing. And straight on, the River Thames in about three miles. Interestingly, there are plans to bring in building materials by barge along this navigation to the Olympics site, which will represent a revival of usage for the waterway and the saving of many lorry journeys over local roads. The bridge in the distance is a footbridge only, giving access into Hackney Wick and the station from the canal towpath.
