Sivill House, Columbia Road
A commanding and unusually impressive tower block, by Skinner & Bailey, 1964-66. It is, in fact, two separate towers joined by a circular service tower. The surface patterning, composed of brick and concrete, is most distinctive - it was designed by Berthold Lubetkin, the architects' former partner, who had a predeliction for such decoration (

Detail of Dorset Estate, Diss Street
There are eight small blocks on the estate, each of which is named after one of the Tolpuddle Martyrs. That is, at least, what I read, but in fact there were six martyrs, a further block is named after Robert Owen, and this one a prominent Chartist. The sign looks original (c1955), with its clean, unfussy typeface. It's quite a relief that the buildings haven't been renamed and disfigured by gaudy signs.
