There are eight small blocks on the estate, each of which is named after one of the Tolpuddle Martyrs. That is, at least, what I read, but in fact there were six martyrs, a further block is named after Robert Owen, and this one a prominent Chartist. The sign looks original (c1955), with its clean, unfussy typeface. It's quite a relief that the buildings haven't been renamed and disfigured by gaudy signs.
