West Knighton village [5]
Higher Lewell Farmhouse was originally built in the 17th century, but largely rebuilt in the 1760s. The house was extended in the mid 19th century and some outbuildings added at the same time. Constructed of squared rubble walls with brick to much of the ground floor and all the first floor under a tile roof. The attached stables and cart are in brick under slate roofs. Listed, grade II, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1304031 West Knighton is a village in Dorset, some 3 miles (4.8 km) southeast of Dorchester. There is evidence of settlement from the Stone Age onwards. An agricultural village until the mid 20th century, most working residents now commute to Dorchester.

Parish church [4]
Part of the churchyard. The Anglican parish church of St Peter was originally built in the 12th century. In the 13th century the nave was extended, the chancel was rebuilt, and an aisle was added. In the 14th century the north porch was built. In the 15th century the upper part of the tower was added, and the 16th century saw the south aisle enlarged and the south chapel formed. The church was restored in 1893. Constructed of rubble stone with some flint under roofs of stone slates, lead and tiles. Listed, grade I, with details at: https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1323955 West Knighton is a village in Dorset, some 3 miles (4.8 km) southeast of Dorchester. There is evidence of settlement from the Stone Age onwards. An agricultural village until the mid 20th century, most working residents now commute to Dorchester.

West Knighton: postboxes old and new
This view ironically both proves and disproves my comments in the description of this photo: Image On the one hand, we can now see the replacement postbox, by the phone box in the background – so I was right on that count. But the old one is still red, so I was wrong on that count.
