The Old Red Sandstone Cliff, below Rock Hall
Rock Hall used to be marked 'Fishing Station'. The track down to the beach can be seen. On this day, there was a considerable amount of sea foam. So much so that wading through it on the rocky part of the shore was hazardous because I could not see where I was treading.

Kaim of Mathers Castle and Rock Hall Fishing Station
Looking slightly north of east over the precarious ruins of the Kaim of Mathers castle atop a narrow rocky promontory, riven with passages and caves below, towards the restored former salmon fishing station at Rock Hall and then onwards to Milton Ness, the principal geographical feature of this grid square. The foreground is designated as an SSSI for its botanical interest and the background is a separate SSSI, designated for its geomorphological interest.

Kaim of Mathers - 2006
14th century castle with quite the story. Anyone interested can email me. My sources indicate that during a storm in 1790, a great portion of the castle was taken by the sea as the cliffs subsided.

Kaim of Mathers, Aberdeenshire
The middle ground of this photo shows the rocky and exposed, headland site of Kaim of Mathers which overlooks Montrose Bay. Although, from a distance, it may appear an inviting place to visit, it is fact extremely dangerous to do so. Indeed, the sensible advice is not even to attempt making footfall at the ruined castle as to do so involves taking a perilous path with a leap of faith at the end of it. As the Kaim of Mathers occupies an exposed, headland position, it is often windy and this further increases the difficulty and danger at this location. The church in the distance is St Cyrus Parish Church.
