This was the day when 'non-essential retail' was allowed to re-open after lockdown 3 of the pandemic, together with pubs and eateries able to serve outside. Here at lunchtime some of the venues in this food street were attracting customers.

Livery Street looking northeast
Livery Street sounds old but is a recent creation, a street of shops and cafés in the former backland of the Regent Hotel, Regent Street east and Regent Grove. This entry between the 1884 Town Hall, right, and the 1809 Regent Hotel, now a Travelodge, extreme left, originally led to the stables and coach houses to the rear of the hotel, hence the livery label. It evolved into a car park and garage. The shops have been bundled as Regent Court in an attempt to make them seem like somewhere. Livery Street is a handy traffic-free short cut between the Parade and Regent Street but, sadly, is often in shadow, lacks any character and feels dead.

Digging the new sewer trench, Regent Grove
An information board explains: "Our sewer improvement works in Regent Grove are complex and extensive. We need to collect the existing flows from the new sewers under construction inClarendon Street, and pass them through a new Storm Relief Structure which has been constructed under the large flower bed near the Town Hall, Parade. To construct the new sewer in Regent Grove we will need to carry out deep excavations on the line of the existing sewer which runs along the outside lane of the carriageway, replacing the old fewer with a new and much larger pipe."

Luxury Apartments?
These apparently derelict buildings in Regent Grove look far from luxurious. They were however taken over by the developers of the adjacent Regent Court/Regent Hotel site as site offices and now await their turn for renovation.

Regent Court.
This is the frontage of the recently completed redevelopment on Regent Grove. Until the 1970s this was the site of the Regent Cinema, one of Leamington Spa's three large cinemas at the time. After closure the building was demolished and for many years until the development shown it was simply open land used for car parking.
