William Batchelor House, Leicester Row, Coventry
One of a number of similarly-styled tower blocks dotted about the northern fringes of Coventry, standing like sentries as if to provide early warning of incursions by Nuneaton or Hinckley. They are distinguished by projecting white concrete bands and closely resemble designs by City Architect, Arthur Ling. However, this was built in 1966 and his tenure ended in 1964 so this may have been by his successor, Terence Gregory. In the foreground is the Coventry Canal Basin, a work of James Brindley from 1768, and, after Brindley's dismissal, Thomas Yeoman. It was all renovated in 1993-95 by Coventry City Council and British Waterways. The facing warehouse is Grade II listed. More info here: Image

Bridge No. 1 Coventry Canal
Drapers Field Bridge[1] at the exit from the canal basin. The sign describes the Coventry Greenway which starts here and runs along the canal towpath to Hawkesbury Junction ( Image ). There is no towpath under the bridge, you have to go to the left, cross the bridge and join the towpath on the other side of the canal (here.. Image ).
