Lazonby & Kirkoswald station
Looking towards Leeds from the Down platform. The station is actually in the middle of Lazonby; Kirkoswald is a similar sized settlement about a mile to the north east. When this picture was taken, no trains were running between Appleby and Carlisle due to flood damage, hence the rusty rails. In the distance, it is possible to see right through the short, straight Lazonby Tunnel.

Lazonby and Kirkoswald railway station
The station buildings date from 1876. This is one of only four stations between Kirkby Stephen and Carlisle remaining open (the others being Appleby, Langwathby and Armathwaite); there used to be nine others serving small villages, that have all closed, although the platforms or station building survive at some of them.
