Community concerned about further youth-related night time criminal damage in Alston town.

Response (4 May 2023)

Further damage at railway station - Investigation ongoing and suspects have been identified and are to be spoken to & crime prevention measures put in place… re: damage to farm walls & buildings Alston NPT officer is in the process of speaking to identified youths with parents present and his investigation continues. Regular mobile & evening foot patrols of the hotspot areas will continue.

carried out street safe surveys and letter dropped drivers who have been perceived to be speeding and we have liaised with the local councillor. We have regular patrols in the area and have the speed indication device deployed in the area for a month recording over 7000 vehicles the average speed was 17.5mph. Eden police will continue to carry out patrols in this location.

Issues with vehicles exceeding the 30-mph speed limit through the village

We will be a high visibility in this area of concerns around key times. Enforcement or words of advice will be given depending on the nature of the issue. We will carry out speed checks when able to. We are also working with Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service who are the lead organisation to deliver educational inputs to young drivers; this has been done on a night time in hot spot areas or via school educational inputs.
