Tomb Street, Belfast
Tomb Street is named after the Tomb family who constructed the original Donegall Quay c1804 Image (the Quay, hidden behind the buildings on the right but running parallel to the street, was known as Tomb's Quay until c1819). David Tomb and his son Henry Joy Tomb were both prominent businessmen in the late 18th and early 19th centuries in Belfast and both contributed to the rise of Belfast as a major port.

Tomb Street, Belfast (June 2015)
See Image (February 2010). A similar view more than five years later. The rather bleak western side (right) would see quite a change, notably with the removal of the grey multi-storey car park (second right), if the development mentioned in the shared description (below) proceeds. Perhaps it’s just my impression but the street has always had a slightly claustrophobic, overly-enclosed feeling.

Edward VIII postbox, Belfast
The only remaining Edward VIII pillar box in Northern Ireland. Now withdrawn from service it remains on display in the foyer of Tomb Street Sorting Office in Belfast Image The box was formerly located on the Upper Lisburn Road in the city close to the junction with Ormonde Park (now replaced by a George V box I think - see Image) - a photograph available at http://www.cui.org.uk/NIPS/Images/PCards/PCards/NIPSPC17.jpg shows the box (complete with plate to reduce the aperture as a deterent to parcel bombers) in its original location. See also Image for a close up view of the notice plate. (Thanks to Royal Mail for letting me take the picture).
