Tomb Street is named after the Tomb family who constructed the original Donegall Quay c1804 Image (the Quay, hidden behind the buildings on the right but running parallel to the street, was known as Tomb's Quay until c1819). David Tomb and his son Henry Joy Tomb were both prominent businessmen in the late 18th and early 19th centuries in Belfast and both contributed to the rise of Belfast as a major port.
