Broadway, Belfast
Broadway was built, over a number of years in the late 19th century, running from the Falls Road via the Donegall Road to Donegall Avenue. The opening of the M1 roundabout, later enlarged for the Westlink and, later still, the Broadway underpass
Image and
Image severed it. This is the section of the street at Glenmachan Street (off the Donegall Road) looking towards Donegall Avenue.

Kilburn Street corner, Belfast
Kilburn Street runs from Moltke Street to Frenchpark Street. This derelict house and shop are at the western corner of the latter. Kilburn Street had been laid out by 1901 but, by the end of WW1, it had only nine houses. Nos 1-95 had still to be built. Most of the houses remain occupied. This dereliction is an exception.

The Kilburn Street Hall, Belfast
A hall, in Kilburn Street, looking similar to a non-denominational hall but really part of the Belfast City Mission. The mission, a Calvinistic organisation, was founded in 1827 “to reach the poor, the churchless and the careless”. It has many halls in Belfast, Dundonald and Newtownabbey.

Image At the time of the previous photograph (August 2009), the row on the left had been agreed for sale as a site for apartments. Today’s photograph shows that it is now vacant and blocked or boarded-up.
