A building with many uses
This is the entrance to what is now Trug, a florists, and an office. Before that it was a Nat West branch. However, the building dates back to the late nineteenth century and was originally the Village Assembly Rooms (the name survives in the top of the entrance stonework). It also served up to the 1930s as a cinema, whereafter it changed hands. The local masons took it over as a lodge (their mark appears on the glazing above the door) and it held meetings for three groups (Alfred & Guthrum Lodge, Sir Thomas de Cheddre Lodge and St Cecilia Lodge).

Church Street, Wedmore
At the top of the hill is St Mary's church; following down the hill is the historic George Inn, an old coaching inn and Grade II listed. It is believed to have originally been built in the mid fifteenth century, with much more of it added in Georgian times. Local tales have it that Judge Jeffreys held Court in the room above the lower bar. Outside the George is a traditional K6 telephone kiosk. The latter is also listed and is the only one of its type in the village. The modern Indian restaurant now occupies part of the old George premises.

Wedmore in bloom
The villagers are proud of their efforts to make the village a brighter place. Started by a group of volunteers in 2005, the movement quickly gained national acclaim. Wedmore won notable South West awards soon after and achieved National Gold in 2009 and 2010. One important former member was the late Arthur Reynolds; he settled in the village only in 2000 but became passionate about the life and interests here, actively helping and administering. Following his death in 2013, he left large amounts of money to various Wedmore causes, including the floral group. A small memorial garden has been created in The Borough in his name.
