Council Offices, Denmark Villas
This building is at the very edge of the grid square, in fact the line runs through the middle of the house at the far end. This piece of land has a fair history, it was first built on in 1921 when an Ice Rink was erected on the site. This went bust and was taken over by the Odeon Cinema chain in 1929 and converted into a cinema. The cinema itself lasted until 1961 when that too was closed down and the building was converted for a second time to a bowling alley. Unfortunately, the alley had to contend with competition from nearby King Alfred Leisue Complex and succumbed in 1969. This time the building did not survive being demolished and converted into Council offices. Underneath the offices are a small car repair centre, a health club and a Tesco Express, one of two in this grid square.

The Conservatory, The Drive
Antiques and bric-a-brac shop just south of The Drive railway bridge. The shop was a newsagents until a couple of years ago though the change of business has not resulted in a change of name for the shop. Its greenhouse type structure is actually the second floor of the building which is connected to the terrace in Eaton Grove.

Through the Bric-a-Brac to Eaton Grove
The bric-a-brac belongs to The Conservatory whose shop is just in view to the right. Behind the metal fence is the arch through to Eaton Grove a mews like area of housing which was constructed in the 1880s. The houses have garages below with living accommodation above.

The old and the new, Eaton Gardens
The building on the left was once part of a number of similarly built gothic style Victorian mansions that lined this side of the street. This one has survivied because it has become a nursing home. Unfortunately, its neighbours either side have succumbed and become a modern block of flats. This is very much the trend in Hove as the land these mansions are built on become more valuable than the buildings themselves. Mansions like these can be converted into 8 or 9 flats but there is more money in taller, newer blocks. Eaton Gardens runs south from the B2120 its southerly junction being split between this square and TQ2804. This picture has been taken halfway down the road and looks to the east.

69-75, The Drive
Late nineteenth century terracotta mansions with a touch of gothic built for the great and good of the era. Nowadays, like most top end Victorian buildings in this area, they have been subdivided into flats. The less fortunate have been demolished altogether and replaced by more modern faceless apartment blocks. The Drive is the B2185 that runs from the seafront to the A270 Old Shoreham Road. These houses are south of the crossroads with the B2120 Cromwell Road on the west side of the road. This view looks south.
