A closed shop on Mill Road.

Part of a 1970s housing estate on the edge of Hailsham. The name derives from the ability to see the dome of Herstmonceux Observatory across the flat expanse of the Pevensey Levels from Hailsham.

A very battered magpie stands on the farm track to Little Marshfoot Farm. Looks like it had been in a fight with something as it has lost an eye. I did think it was dead but close up it was still breathing and after I left it to walk down the track it hopped around a little. Unfortunately, what life it has left will be ended by either a local cat or a fox looking for food. The close up view does highlight the iridescent green found on their tails (Others will have shades of purple or blue).

The road heads south east out of Hailsham towards White Dyke. The building on the right is Hamlins Villa.

This small works off Mill Road lies on the site of the last surviving windmill in Hailsham. The smock mill was constructed in 1834 and continued in operation until destroyed by a fire in 1923. The shell was reused as a power mill which remained working until another fire destroyed that in 1967. Nothing now remains of the mill though some of the former ancillary buildings are still in use.

The shell was then fitted out as a power mill but that too burnt down in another fire in 1967 and only the ancillary buildings now remain.
