Fleet Street
Now part of the A23 that has been built to relieve traffic in both London Road and Ditchling Road. Part of the New England Quarter development and taken from the junction with Stroudley Road with New England House in the background. The name Fleet Street has been revived having originally been a small street on the eastern side of the former goods yard between Ann Street and Cheapside. When that area was redeveloped in the 1960s it disappeared into the newly enlarged road which was renamed New England Street over its entire course.

New and Not So Old, New England Quarter
Looking through the recently developed New England Quarter towards New England Street and part of New England House built in the 1960s after a large scale slum clearance between Trafalgar Street and New England Road.

Loading Bay, New England House
Built in the 1960s on the site of former terraces for railway workers of the nearby locomotive works. The offices are now an eyesore and not fully occupied. With the redevelopment of the former locomotive works site behind it one wonders whether this will be replaced in the near future. Taken from Providence Place.

New England Quarter
The largest brownfield development being undertaken in Brighton at the moment. The land was originally part of Brighton locomotive works and goods yard. The former opened in 1850 and closed in 1957 before briefly being converted to a factory for the production of Isetta bubble cars which lasted until 1964. The buildings were demolished in 1969 and the land became a giant car park which it remained until 2003 when the new development started. The buildings in view are the completed Jurys Inn hotel to the left and the scaffolded, unfinished apartment block to be known as One Brighton. The pathway is designed to link Stroudley Road, Brighton station's new access road with itself lower down near to the junction with Fleet Street.

Stroudley Road
Taken from the junction with Fleet Street. The fences to the left cover an area waiting to be developed as a hotel, the architects initially wished to construct a 42 story tower but were refused planning permission. Jurys Inn has been completed and is now in operation, an eco-friendly block known as One Brighton is unfinished to the right whilst the houses above a built on the former supports of locomotive works. The drop in gradient of the road marks the spot were the locomotive works ended and the land once occupied by goods yard begins.

Block E, New England Quarter
Viewed from the walkway above the steps next to the Jurys Inn. A recent rain shower has given the pavement a shiny sheen. The development has been constructed on the site of the old locomotive works and began in 2004 and is nearing completion.

Block E, New England Quarter
Part of the new development constructed upon the site of the former locomotive works and goods yard. This section follows part of the former rail link from the mainline to the former goods yard. The block name is currently that of the designated area though I believe the individual blocks of flats may well end up having names. The bits stuck to the wall on the left are for climbing though the notice above states that individuals do so at their own risk.
