Some of the vehicles on display at the restored goods warehouse at Castlecroft (Image]). In the foreground are a couple of tractors and a steam traction engine; on the far side, a row of three buses. They are, from left to right, a 1967 Leyland Titan PD2 (ex Salford Corporation fleet no 281, registration JRJ 281E), a Guy Arab IV 6LW built 1958 (ex Lancashire United Transport fleet number 21, registration 116 JTD) and an ex-Bolton Corporation Leyland Atlantean PDR (fleet number 185, registration 185 UWH) dating from 1963.

Thorn-EMI Metrolink Ticket Machine (1992)
This ticket machine is one of 80 which were installed in 1992 at the Metrolink stations and tramstops between Altrincham and Bury; the first phase of the network. This particular machine was installed at the Besses o’ th’ Barn tramstop. It is now in the Bury Transport Museum at Castlecroft. These machines had 24 destination buttons with 5 buttons for ticket type. Originally, 7 buttons were for Metrolink zones and 16 for British Rail zones with one spare. This was changed in April 1993 to give a button for each individual Metrolink station (26 in total at that time) with the remaining 3 buttons for BR zones. These machines remained in service until spring 2010 when, after the network was expanded, they were replaced by the current touchscreen, multi-lingual (and bright yellow!) machines manufactured in Germany. See Image] and Image] for more detailed pictures.

Metrolink Phase 1/2 Ticket Machine (detail 1)
A closer look at Image] showing the corporate colour scheme of blue/grey/white in use at the time of its withdrawal in 2010. At that time, the machine used a grid of buttons with one for each of the stops on the phase 1 (Bury-Altrincham) and phase 2 (Manchester-Eccles) lines (including the Mosley Street and Woodlands Road stops which have since been demolished, the latter being replaced by the Queen's Road stop).

Metrolink Phase 1/2 Ticket Machine (detail 2)
A closer look at Image] showing the route map in the corporate colour scheme of blue/grey/white which was in use at the time of its withdrawal in 2010. At that time, only phases 1 and 2 of the network had been constructed and the map is much simpler than it is today! Of particular note are the stations at Woodlands Road - now demolished and replaced by the Queen's Road stop, Mosley Street - now demolished, and G-Mex - now renamed Deansgate-Castlefield.
