Bournemouth: cross the road with pride (2)
This is the weekend of Bourne Free, the Bournemouth Pride festival celebrating LGBT (lesbian/gay/bi/transsexual) culture, one of many such events which take place across the country. Siemens, the locally based company which produces street furniture such as traffic lights, has altered the green man at three road junctions in the town for this Friday and the weekend. Each crossing has one each of four gender symbols. This one, two interlocking female symbols, represents lesbians while the heterosexual, gay and transsexual symbols can be seen below. Bournemouth: construction underway at Terrace Mount
Looking across the NCP car park, build on the site of the town's bus station which burnt down in the mid-1970s, across to the steep slopes of Terrace Mount where some construction work is taking place. I don't know what is going to be built, but it looks quite major.

Bournemouth: some large-scale development activity
Until a couple of months ago it was a large, derelict lump of land at a much higher level - see the foot of the crane and the course of Terrace Road running alongside - along with a public car park at that higher level. The development is set to be a Hilton Hotel with a panoramic restaurant on the top (nineteenth) floor, along with the associated car parking and I believe 60 residential apartments. It is expected to be completed in 2016. Large supports hold the surrounding ground in place while the early excavation work (groundwork, one might say) continues on the site.

Bournemouth: new Hilton Hotel frontage
An awkwardly large building to photograph in its entirety from this 'front' angle (for my phone camera, at least), the new Hilton Hotel is perhaps better appreciated from above Image or from the east: Image The hotel opened in November 2015, a little earlier than planned. A picture of the site while under the early stages of construction is here: Image There are also some apartments on the upper floors and, I believe, a rooftop level restaurant.
