Highcliffe, fingerpost
Traditional Hampshire cast-iron fingerpost at the junction Lymington Road & Hinton Wood Avenue; tapering pillar, ring finial with legend "HAMPSHIRE HIGHCLIFFE". Readers with an eye for accuracy will note that Highcliffe has been in Christchurch since 1974, hence in Dorset; Highways have generously disregarded this, and maintained this post well. Four other similar posts remain in Christchurch District.

The grave of Harry Gordon Selfridge, St Mark's Church, Highcliffe
The graves of Mr Selfridge the retail magnate and his wife Rosalie separated by two anonymous graves. One would have perhaps thought that such a man, who had known such fabulous wealth, would have had a more elaborate memorial. But at the time of his death in 1947 he was destitute, having lost all of his fortune to gambling and women. Especially the twin sister showgirls Jenny and Rosie Dolly. Selfridge lavished houses and jewels upon them in return for their favours. He was the bottomless money pot that financed their wild gambling habit. They totally bankrupted him.
