The graves of Mr Selfridge the retail magnate and his wife Rosalie separated by two anonymous graves. One would have perhaps thought that such a man, who had known such fabulous wealth, would have had a more elaborate memorial. But at the time of his death in 1947 he was destitute, having lost all of his fortune to gambling and women. Especially the twin sister showgirls Jenny and Rosie Dolly. Selfridge lavished houses and jewels upon them in return for their favours. He was the bottomless money pot that financed their wild gambling habit. They totally bankrupted him.
