The name High Howe Close refers to the road ahead and the turning to the right, while the main carriageway continues as Littlemoor Avenue, out of shot to the left. This northern segment of High Howe Close is designated a byway open to all traffic. I don't know why this particular stretch of road should be labelled as such: maybe it was a historical route when this was heathland, and the modern road network incorporated it. The route does not save much time for the pedestrian, compared with walking around by road, because all you can do at the end is turn right parallel with the road a few yards behind us.

In the last minutes of daylight and with a clearish sky, we get an almost colourless view down the fairly steep southern section of High Howe Lane.
