Tunnel under Gisburne Park
I believe this a mineral line only these days. The tunnel was constructed so as not to offend the vision of the proprietors of Gisburne Park with clouds of steam issuing from coal fired engines

Gate lodges to Gisburn park
Pevsner calls the pair of 'Gothick' lodges at the start of the drive to Gisburn Park (House) 'delightful' and they are Grade-II* listed: https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101362297-pair-of-lodges-at-southern-entrance-to-gisburn-park-with-6-stone-piers-and-linking-railings-and-gates-gisburn#.W6qPMiaWyAg . Pevsner claims 1775 for the building date, while the listed building record says ca. 1800. Pevsner reported statuettes in the niches above the pointed windows, but these have disappeared.

The A59 through Gisburn
This trunk road is very busy, and speeding has been a problem since the early days of motoring. The big house on the left, now apartments, was built in 1635 and became the Ribblesdale Arms probably some time in the 19C, perhaps at the same time as the front windows of the ground and first floor were modernised. For the plaque over the door of the house see Image

Plaque on the former Ribblesdale Arms, Gisburn
Difficult to read, but ImagesofEngland has this transcription: 'THIS HOUSE WAS BUILDED IN ANNO DOMINI 1635 AT THE COSTS AND CHARGS OF THOMAS LISTER. £855 COSTEd'. The building is not listed as the Ribblesdale Arms in a directory of 1822, but was mentioned in a local history item in 1920.
