Difficult to read, but ImagesofEngland has this transcription: 'THIS HOUSE WAS BUILDED IN ANNO DOMINI 1635 AT THE COSTS AND CHARGS OF THOMAS LISTER. £855 COSTEd'. The building is not listed as the Ribblesdale Arms in a directory of 1822, but was mentioned in a local history item in 1920.
