Pub to let: the Great Western, Sherbourne Road, Acocks Green
A sad sight. Pubs are still closing because, it is said, low supermarket prices have encouraged some people to drink at home. What other use could be found for a pub?

The Great Western, Acocks Green
Situated at top of 'The Avenue' next to the railway station, named after the original railway company GWR. The site once (in 1888) had a hotel of the same name.

Acocks Green railway station, West Midlands
Opened in 1852 by the Great Western Railway on its line from Oxford to Birmingham Snow Hill. View north west towards Tyseley and Birmingham on a misty morning. The footbridge and lifts are a recent addition - see Image] for a comparison with 2011. The car park to the left is the site of a second island platform - this used to be a four platform station.

Acocks Green Station
Acocks Green station was opened on the Great Western Railway's main line in 1852 in what must then have been a very rural area. The suburb has since developed as a mixed area, a buffer between inner city Sparkbrook and leafy Solihull. Today the station, whose entrance on Sherbourne Road is seen here, has a frequent service of trains running from Snow Hill and Moor Street. The bus stop is served by buses on Birmingham's outer circle no 11 route (the 'c' suffix indicating that this is in the clockwise direction), claimed to be the longest urban bus route in Europe at 27 miles.

Acocks Green Station (70s)
Road bridge entrance to Acocks Green Station. Notice the bus stop (11 'Outer Circle') for buses into village). The right-hand section of station at this time was used exclusively by a 3rd party company. The second island platform that was here at the time has since been removed and is car-park accessed from this side of station. Notice also, the old white-on-blue station name place, replaced more recently by the awful Centro / white-on-red sign. See Image] for same location today.
