Sopwell Nunnery Information Board (2)
Located on the Abbey Line Trail in Sopwell Nunnery https://www.walkingenglishman.com/ldp/abbeylinetrail.html refers, this board has been erected by St Albans District Council and has the following wording: Sopwell Nunnery Green Space: Summer Wildflower Meadows. This is the summer wildflower meadow and provides an important habitat for wildlife, especially insects which feed on nectar. Wildflowers thrive in areas with nutrient poor soils and high light levels. The images in the middle show the following from left to right: Natural Grassland, Field Scabious and Bumblebees. The meadow will be cut and the cuttings removed twice a year. In a few years time this management should lower nutrient levels and promote the growth of wildflowers.

Prospect Road
Semi-detached houses at the Cottonmill Lane end of Prospect Road, built in 1928-30. Prospect Road started out as a cul-de-sac off Holywell Hill, first developed in the second half of the 19th Century. The eastward extension, as seen here, linked it through to Cottonmill Lane, along the route of a former footpath.

St Albans: Prospect Road
The houses at the eastern end of Prospect Road are mainly bay-fronted between-the-wars semis, but the totally vegetation-clad telegraph pole with its massed ranks of radiating cables was something different!

c.1930s housing in Cottonmill Lane, by its junction with Prospect Road. Although not developed until then, the route itself is much older, being the route from St Albans out to Sopwell from St Albans.
