New Byth
The village lies in an L shape on the slope of the hill, bisected by the B9027. It is one of the planned villages of the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century which are so common in Scotland. The farm on this side of the village is Milltown of Byth.

Main Street
I was intrigued by the tiny house (No 9) with just one door and one window in the lane to the left of the sandstone cottage, but I cannot make up my mind whether it is a back door to the cottage, or a separate house. The building that looks like a kirk has a notice saying it is New Byth and Monquhitter Parish Hall.

Aldersyde
A fine solid stone villa standing back from the main street in its own gardens. It is next door to the kirk, and I wonder if it could originally have been the manse. The pillar in the garden has the house name and the date 1829.

New Byth Kirk
There are no notices around the kirk to say what denomination it is, so I surmise that it is no longer in use.

Every village has its recycling point these days, New Byth being no exception.
